About Stan Timmins and Son's

As well as providing Tree  Surgery Services Stan Timmins are dedicated to the preservation and management of trees. Trees are what we are about, we thrive on ensuring that we remain compliant with all industry standards and hold all the relevant City and Guilds NPTC (National Proficiency Test Council) for undertaking all tree surgery services, tree works, planting, hedge cutting, stump grinding, chipping and strimming operations.

Stan Timmins and Sons Ltd are fully insured with a £5 m public and £10 m employer liability policy. In addition to this, we also hold professional indemnity insurance for Arboricultural Consultancy.

All tree work undertaken is carried out in accordance with BS3998 (2010) and complies with the current best practices for Arboricultural works.

Stan Timmins and Sons Ltd are able to service the whole of the North East from their operational depot just off the A19 (South East Northumberland) along with their offices in the Morpeth and County Durham areas.

This means we can undertake work across a large geographical area which includes Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Alnwick, Morpeth, Whitley Bay, Hexham, Haltwhistle, Durham, Stockton on Tees and Darlington.

Stan started his career as an apprentice in Felling Parks Department in Gateshead and built up a wealth of experience as well as gaining numerous qualifications throughout his career at Askham Bryan College in Yorkshire, the renowned Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh and Northumbria University.

An expert in garden design, arboriculture, nursery work and all aspects of amenity horticulture, he worked for many years in Newcastle Parks Department where he won gold and silver awards at RHS Tatton Park, BBC Gardeners World, and RHS Chelsea. His RHS Chelsea design depicting the Lindisfarne Gospels is now permanently displayed on Holy Island.

As a qualified teacher, he instructs beginners and experts alike from teenage groups to garden clubs. He also runs his own business specialising in arboricultural consultancy, tree care and grounds maintenance.

He had had a long association with the BBC broadcasting gardening advice for over 30 years on BBC Radio Newcastle.

Along with his colleague Eddie Wardrobe, “Stan and Eddie” used to broadcast each Sunday on the Garden Mania programme and were hailed as the region’s favourite radio gardeners for over 30 years.

Liam has been involved with the horticultural and arboricultural industry for as long as he can remember as he used to go to work with Stan.

Liam decided to start Stan Timmins and Sons ltd in partnership with his father Stan upon the completion of his masters in 2012. He has grown the business to where it is today with the assistance of Stan.

Stan runs and manages the consultancy side of the business whilst Liam focuses on the day to day contracting activities of the business.
